Fix
appointments as soon as possible! The longer you stay - even if it's a few
hours - the more likely it is that the apartment has already been booked by the
time you arrive. Come dressed well and prepare for any kind of questions that
you are going to ask. If you're not very good at French, try to go with someone
who can help you a little. As a foreigner, you regularly have to be very
convincing.
It may be a
good idea to go to the appointment with cash (or better with the checkbook) in
hand, especially if the apartment was advertised in the newspaper. Of course,
you should not say yes to the first apartment you see. Always try to visit
several places to know the market and the price you are willing to pay. Also,
do not let the competition for an apartment spur you to sign a contract unless
you are really sure. After having said all this, the best advice is, when you
find something good, take it! If you delay in deciding, they will probably win.
